Safeguarding and Child Protection

 Safeguarding Statement

At Royal Cross Primary School, the health, safety and well-being of every child are our priorities. We listen to our pupils and take seriously what they tell us. In addition to this we recognise that some of our deaf pupils may not have the level of language to communicate with us using formal methods of communication, we therefore monitor very carefully what our children tell us through non-verbal and signed communication methods. Our aim is that all pupils enjoy their time at Royal Cross School and are able to thrive in a safe, caring, stimulating environment.

At Royal Cross School, we take our Safeguarding responsibilities very seriously. This means that we have ensured that everyone working in the school has successfully completed the necessary clearances. All staff and volunteers have undertaken safeguarding training as part of their induction to enable them to work with pupils and all staff take part in annual child protection / safeguarding training and follow the policies and procedures, local authority guidelines and documentation that link into the safeguarding agenda.

This means that we have senior staff members who are specifically trained in Child Protection procedures and are designated teachers for child protection (DSL’s). In order to provide the very best, relevant training for all staff our leadership team are fully trained in delivering safeguarding training with a focus on safeguarding children with disabilities. We have a wide range of polices which ensure that we are in line with current safeguarding practices.

Child Protection Procedures

The Authority requires the Headteacher to report any obvious or suspected case of child abuse to Social Care including non-accidental injury, severe physical neglect, emotional abuse and/or sexual abuse. The school has a policy on Child Protection based upon the Lancashire’s guidelines. It is available for parents to read and paper copies are available from the office upon request.

Sometimes we may need to share information and work in partnership with other agencies when there are concerns about a child's welfare. We will ensure that our concerns about our pupils are discussed with his/her parents/carers first unless we have reason to believe that such a move would be contrary to the child's welfare.

We actively support the Government's Prevent Agenda to counter radicalism and extremism.
