Home Learning/Homework

Homework

All our Sycamore children have homework that they take home each week.. This can be linked to Phonics, Maths or any work we have done within class. Any completed homework should be stuck into their Home Learning Book and this should be sent in every week so we can see what the children have been up to. You can also send any photos to class on our class Dojo page.  Make sure you send them as a private message.

Reading

Reading has a lifelong, positive impact on children's lives from education and wellbeing to social and emotinal development. Reading to your child offers them comfort & reassurance, confidence and security, relaxation, happiness and fun. It gives them access to the world!  Giving your child your time and full attention will build on their vocabulry, language acquisition, self esteem whilst also feeding their imagination!

Deaf children need access to language to understand the world around them, to communicate with their peers, to access the full curriculum and to develop their language and vocabulary. We ask that you read with your child on a daily basis. Share a book, look at the pictures, act it out, explore the vocabulary and enjoy reading!

Phonics

As a school we use Red Rose Letters & Sounds along with visual phonics.  Visual phonics uses hand cues and symbols that represent the different phonemes (sounds) in English.  This is used across a range of settings across the UK. Visual phonics is useful for supporting pupils with, reading, lip pattern and spelling.  Phonics homework will be sent home for the children to complete.  There will be a parents workshop on phonics that you can attend in school. If you need any support please get in touch on Class Dojo.
