Pupil Attendance

Improving School Attendance.

We feel that the most important way to promote good attendance is to ensure that both pupils and parents have a positive relationship and good communications with school. We like to reward good attendance through special certificates awarded to pupils in assemblies at the end of each term.

Why Regular Attendance is Important

Research shows that pupils who attend school regularly are more likely to do well in the future. Regular attendance helps children to develop their confidence and to make and keep lasting friendships. Ensuring your child’s regular attendance at school is your legal responsibility and permitting absence from school without a good reason creates an offence in law and may result in prosecution.

Communication

Good home - school links between teachers and parents are important. If there is a problem at home affecting attendance it is important to talk to school to see if we can help. Parental support is willingly given by the school and plays an important role in dealing with attendance problems. Home visits can be arranged if required.

If you know your child is going to be absent from school please:

Contact school as soon as possible on the first day of absence by telephone, text, email, Class Dojo or note / letter. Whichever is more convenient.

If your child is absent from school we will:

Telephone you on the first day of absence if we have not heard from you. School will always contact parents if there is any doubt as to the whereabouts of any child.
