Nursery Consultation

Nursery Consultation 22/05/2019 - 19/06/2019.

Dear Parents, Carers, local neighbours & members of our wider community.

The Governors of Royal Cross Primary School are currently consulting with the local community & stakeholders on our proposal to introduce a Nursery within our school from September 2019.

The Nursery will be situated in the Early Years room and will have access to quality outdoor provision.  The proposed room can hold approximately 14 children.  The Nursery would work closely with our reception class. The nursery will provide specialist early intervention for deaf/HI and speech & language for pre-school children. We think it is important that our Nursery children are incorporated into the daily life of the school.

In September our initial intake will be between 4 and 6 children, aged 3 +.   We are proposing to offer 5 morning & 5 afternoon sessions – sessions will last 3 hours.  An optional lunch session will be offered too.  Timings are to be confirmed but we will try to align with the school day.  Parents will have the opportunity to sign up for 15 or 30 hours funding (if applicable).

Please note there will be no automatic right for nursery aged children to gain a reception place at school & parents would need to work alongside the local authority Inclusion Service and children would need an EHCP to continue within our school. If appropriate school would support the application for an EHCP assessment request.

The Governors of Royal Cross see this as an exciting opportunity to develop a centre of excellence for Early Years Foundation Stage provision and welcome any response to this consultation.

Responses should be sent either in letter form or email to:

Mr C Gregory, Chair of Governors. c/o Royal Cross Primary School Elswick Rd Ashton Preston PR2 1NT

Email –

This letter will be circulated to local homes, local pre-school nurseries, local schools & local doctor surgeries.  It is also displayed on our school website.

After the consultation period of four weeks (which finishes on 19/06/19) the governing body will review all responses & make their decision.
